P5Y :: Give Peace a Deadline

It's not just music that gets us out of bed in the morning. Peace In 5 Years is a bold global movement to create world peace by 2014. P5Y changes global perceptions about what peace actually is and how to attain it. P5Y clearly defines world peace, places a deadline on attaining it, + invites all people of vision + action--including governments, non-government organizations, businesses + individuals -- to take the actions that create peace.

The P5Y movement asks the question:

Do you agree that achieving world peace in next 5 years would be good?

If you answer "yes," the next question becomes,

What are you willing to do about it in the next 5 years?

Basically you're one of these categories:

  1. You moralling support with little or no commitment to action
  2. You're willing to adopt new attitudes + behaviors + incorporate them into daily life... or
  3. You're repurposing to give your Dharma to align with the P5Y movement.

Each answer is ok.

For P5Y, peace is not a fluffy term or about just being nice, nice.

Peace IS NOT the absence of conflict or disagreement. Peace = Safe Conflict. War = Violent Conflict. They're just different approaches with very different values + price tags.

gpadP5Y is about educating + establishing a new context for human conflict that removes violence as an acceptable means for dealing with conflict among the family of nations. This is a radical departure from traditional notions of the peace movement, in which organizations typically engage in a perpetual cycle of protest + activism that has become cliched, polarized, rarely making true advances towards a more peaceful world.

In fact, some so-called humanitarian organizations have a distinct disincentive to attain peace because it would mean the end of their fundraising capability, positions + prestige of the leadership.

What might at first glance seem to be youthful naivety or radical over-simplification, P5Y is in reality a completely new perspective that refuses to accept established premises. P5Y is about tapping into the deep, often hidden or suppressed, wish of nearly every person that the world would be a safer + more fulfilling place to live for everyone, despite what they have been told is possible or impossible.

P5Y is over in 5 years.no matter what. Success or failure in attaining total global peace is not the most important factor in the success of P5Y. It's about changing perceptions, asking deep questions, + providing a means for people to take effective action, no matter how great or small.

What people who care are saying....

"Here's how you can help to move the world toward world peace in five years. Committing to a path of peace transforms every aspect of your life. Buy this book. Read it. Act on it!"Anthony Robbins, Best Selling Author of Unlimited Power

"Ordinary people need to accept their power to make change in the world, instead of only depending on their governments. People have voices, resources, votes, and actions they can take that make a difference. Give Peace A Deadline shows you ways to lead and follow to create the peace we all need and want so much."Jamil Mahuad, former President of Ecuador, Fellow at Harvard University Kennedy School of Government

“I have two words to say about this amazingly provocative and positive book about setting a deadline for peace: Why not? These times call for bold, practical ideas, such as those offered here. Read on!”William Ury, author of The Third Side: Why We Fight and How We Can Stop and co-founder of Harvard’s Project on Negotiation

"I commend this book as a unique effort to advance the cause of peace and progress in a businesslike way. There are many institutions and groups that are busy in peace building and peacemaking. This is a private attempt to change the way we approach issues and native people. I wish this publication and the ideas expressed well."Mike Moore, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and former Director General of the World Trade Organization

"Have a deadline on peace is an Excellent idea! Much too often, peace related initiatives are fuzzy and set goals in the distant future. This intelligent and well written book provides concrete tools for every individual to contribute towards world peace."Steve Killelea, Global Peace Index, Institute for Economics and Peace
